The Astrid Ring is a thin halo engagement ring from inspired by the Edwardian Era but made more recently with an authentically old diamond! The ring centers a dreamy old mine cut cushion diamond of approximately 1.16 carats, K-L color, VS2 clarity. The diamond is bezel-set in a platinum setting with a slim halo of 24 diamonds surrounding it. An additional 3 diamonds line each shoulder with the side diamonds all combining for approximately 0.20 carats. The ring is size 7.25 and can be resized!
This ring is absolutely heavenly! That center diamond is so incredibly stunning with gorgeous facets and the prettiest pastel flashes of color! We are also loving the proportions of the diamond with its more elongated shape and the way it gently rises from the halo while keeping a relatively low profile. This ring offers a beautiful sense of balance, making statements both bold and subtle. The ultra-fine millegrain detail enhances each of the bezel settings. This is the perfect ring for anyone looking for great surface area without the weight! In typical Edwardian fashion, the Astrid ring passes between bold and delicate effortlessly!
The Astrid showcases some of the Edwardian Era’s more subtle trends. Edwardian jewelry is often described as lace translated into metal, leading to ornate, flowery patterns of vines, ribbons, and bows. In the Astrid ring, we see instead the Edwardian passion for platinum, which is lightweight but durable and perfect for adding hand-engraved millegrain detail. Platinum disappeared from jewelry during the years of World War I, as the government declared it an essential military material and enforced strict rations. At the turn of the century, the Edwardian Era is also notable for its renewed fascination with diamonds and hand-cut techniques that allowed each stone to display its unique natural beauty.
Of course, the Astrid ring is also remarkable as a product of the late Edwardian Era. Circa 1915, this thin halo engagement ring sits just outside both the Edwardian and Art Deco eras. However, in its delicate elegance, we can see hints of the later Art Deco influence in the almost architectural attention to balance, especially in the gentle curve in the band just below the halo and the open metal arches.
