The Ramona ring is an Art Deco platinum engagement ring circa 1925! This beautiful ring centers a GIA Certified 2.44 carat transitional cut diamond of M color, VS2 clarity. The diamond is set in an 8-prong platinum setting with a gallery of heart shapes that creates a scalloped outline surrounding the diamond. The shoulders feature a split shank with a diamond on each side. The ring is size 5.75 and can be resized!
Ramona is bright and lovely with a transitional cut diamond—the vintage, hand-cut relative of today’s modern round diamond. The M color gives the diamond a soft warmth, while the facets have gorgeous, floral patterns. The beautiful setting flatters the finger with its delicate spread. The open metalwork is also a nice touch from the split shank to the heart-like pattern that supports the 8 delicate prongs with a lovely pillowed texture.
Known for its sleek and modern style, the Art Deco era was also in love with platinum! As one of the rarest materials on Earth, platinum was highly valued after the dismal rationed years of the first World War. The U.S. Government would eventually ban its use in jewelry during WWII, deeming it an essential “strategic resource”. Platinum, however, soon came to epitomize the opulence of Art Deco as a whole and was popularized by many celebrities.
Art Deco platinum engagement rings were also quite popular. Because platinum is malleable but durable, jewelers had begun to experiment with the possibilities of millegraining, incorporating new and intricate patterns in diamond ring settings. As we see with the Ramona ring, platinum was also perfect for capturing the Art Deco aesthetic. It is sleek and modern with a cool radiance and yet, so timeless. Platinum is known to last for generations without tarnishing!
