CULET
The culet is the tip of the diamond that has been polished flat. This creates that "hole" in the center of antique diamonds. It is a hallmark of an antique stone and something that we look for and want to see when searching for beautiful stones.
FACETS
The faceting of antique diamonds is what makes them so beautiful. More broad and open, this creates the signature look of an antique stone. Diamonds were cut in this style up until the 1940s- when they shifted to the modern style of tightly knit, more splintery faceting. The broad facets create a dynamic play of light that makes these stones feel more alive.
CROWN
Antique diamonds are known for their high crowns. The crown is the top part of the diamond when viewed from the side. This higher crown is what contributes to an antique diamond's wonderful play of light.
